This article is a general overview of the main mechanisms on how fruit can heal you. Remember though that sometimes healing takes time. True healing isn’t a pill or prescription away. If you want to ignore your symptoms (the signals your body is giving you) then go to your nearest allopathic doctor. Just be ready for some other symptoms to pop up later. If you want to live in a body that is thriving – understanding and incorporating the foundations of health is the harmonious more effective approach, though perhaps more challenging.
Healing by Alkalizing
Let’s get into the simple chemistry of it. Everything has a pH (potential hydrogen). The pH scale runs from 0 (most acidic) to 14 (most basic) – with pure water being neutral at 7 pH. Our blood is kept at around 7.4.
When we consume food, it metabolizes into either “acidic ash” or “alkaline ash”. Our bodies thrive in an alkaline environment, whereas pathogens (harmful fungus, mold, yeast, bacteria, viruses, parasites) thrive in an acidic environment. What makes a food acid or alkaline forming? Foods containing elements such as chloride, phosphorous and sulfur will break down into acids, while foods containing elements such as magnesium, calcium and potassium will help alkalize.
There is a convenient system called the PRAL system (stands for potential renal acid load) that can give you a sense of whether a food is acid or alkaline forming. Putting the pieces together with this information is Dr. Robert Morse, N.D., D.Sc., M.H.. He speaks on how eating a fruitarian diet (fruit, berries, melons) and taking certain herbs will alkalize you and rid you of illness. He focuses a lot on the lymphatic system and kidneys and how these are directly impacted by the pH byproducts of the food we eat. Basically, blood delivers nutrients to cells, while the lymphatic system takes cellular waste (which is acidic) away and drains it out through our kidneys into our urine. When we eat acidic food, our body struggles to maintain the proper blood pH (if your blood becomes acidic you die), so it takes those acids and puts them in tissues and lymph fluid while also taking calcium from our bones, joints and connective tissue to help neutralize. If someone is also eating lots of fat, protein and salt, their kidneys aren’t filtering properly, so this now acidic lymphatic fluid has nowhere to go and the sewage system (so to speak) gets backed up, stagnant and more acidic, leading to a plethora of health issues. Point blank: all illness is acidosis.

Fruit gives us the sugar energy (in the forms of glucose and fructose) to heal and function. It gives us amino acids, water, minerals, vitamins, and fats to thrive. It has the fiber and astringency to clean out our bowels and help us absorb food better. On top of that, fruit is filled with phytonutrients, polyphenols, flavonoids, antioxidants and other beneficial compounds that take our health to the next level. Most importantly though, fruit is extremely easy for your body to digest. By just eating fruit, you free up tons of energy that your body can use to heal itself – energy that would have otherwise been directed at digesting dense proteins and fats.
