Essential Fruitarian Tools

High Speed Blender: The Vitamix is known for its superior quality and hefty price tag. Kitchenaid’s K400 series is decent, but you will want to leave frozen fruit at room temperature for a little bit before blending. It comes with a smaller portion blending jar too, but a great single-serve blend can be found in the Nutri Ninja. Although I haven’t tried it, they have developed a portable blender, which is a great idea!

Kettle: If you like your tea, this is a given. I like the glass ones as it seems less metal is in contact with my water. Either way, get a good quality one, as cheaper materials will leak into your water as it boils.

Tupperware: This is essential for bringing clean fruit on the go. Have some glass ones for more acidic fruit like lemons and pineapple. You may want to have a big square one for the other half of a melon.

Colander: Because you need to clean your produce.

Veggie Wash Spray: Because you need to clean your produce. Even if you are not eating the peel, wash it. Your local health food store (or maybe even grocery store) should have some. Some people make their own.

Mason Jars: 1 L ones for juices, and some half L.

Knives: One chef knife and one paring knife should do the trick.

Knife Sharpener: It is important to sharpen your knives regularly. A tool like this works. Be aware that metal dust will be produced when sharpening, so do it over a sink and wash your knives right after.

Cutting Board: I prefer plastic ones, as wood needs oiling and oils are not good to ingest. Always rinse and prop your cutting board upright after every use, so that water doesn’t sit on top of it.

Citrus Reamer: These are great for adding some orange or lemon juice to salads or smoothies. Get a plastic one like this, as wooden ones will get moldy. For making a quick shot of lemon, this one works well.

Spiralizer: If you are interested in savory fruit meals, this is extremely handy for making zucchini and cucumber noodles. The simple hand-held Veggetti brand one works perfectly.

Water Bottle & Bottle Brush: Bring your own water everywhere so that you can drink your reverse osmosis or distilled water and not filthy tap water. Glass bottles are best, but good quality metal should suffice (not for distilled though).

Sink Strainer: When cleaning your juicer, use a small-holed sink strainer to prevent the food bits from clogging your sink.

Veggie Peeler: Use this for when you want your cucumber or zucchini noodles without peels. I prefer the classic design and not the Y shape.

Big Bowl: To put your chopped fruit in for the juicer or to have big salads. If your salad dressing is citrus, you probably want to avoid metal or plastic bowls.

Baskets: To store your fruit as it ripens.

Smoothie Straw and Straw Brush: A flexible silicone straw allows you to fold it into your mason jar in between sips. Plus they come in fun colours!

Bonus Fruitarian Tools

Juicer: Hands down the Nama J2 juicer is fantastic. It has a convenient hopper, so you can throw in your fruits and herbs and walk away, instead of having to feed it piece by piece. Looks like they have a travel size too, for those who can’t part from their juices while traveling! Whichever juicer you get, make sure that it is a cold press/slow masticating juicer.

Food Processor: This is good for making tabbouleh, as well as some very creamy nice-cream (ice-cream made with frozen bananas).

Dehydrator: There’s nothing like partially-dehydrated banana slices or apple chips! A basic dehydrator will get the job done for that. Just be sure not to set it above 118° F (47° C) to maintain those vital enzymes. If you want to create things like wraps then you will need a dehydrator that has the insert-able tray design. Excalibur is top of the line.

Coconut Jack: If your into drinking fresh coconut water or eating young coconut meat, then you’ll need one of these.

Kitchen Scissors: Have a designated pair of food scissors if you plan on making a seaweed salad that requires cutting of nori sheets into pieces.

Orange Juicer: If you like your orange juice, a simple electric one like this is great. Or you can get a hand press orange juicer if you are inclined.

Drum Grater: If you choose to include carrots and beets in some of your meals, this is a very handy way of shredding them.

Sorbet Maker: Many masticating juicers come with a sorbet attachment to make all natural sorbet. If cold treats are your thing, this is a great addition. Here is the Nama sorbet attachment.

Cocktail Shaker and Muddler: For some fun mocktails!

Ice Trays: Also for mocktails.

Fine Mesh Strainer: For taking all pulp out of juices.

Plastic Squeeze Bottle: To drizzle sauces on desserts.
